Miscellaneous Test Contaminants

SOFTC-2A
SOFTC-2A liquid filtration contaminant is prepared with respect to Federal Specification F-F-351c dated May 25, 1966, Amendment 3 dated January 15, 1974. Manufacture of this material is in accordance with paragraphs 4.4.4, 4.4.5, 6.4.1, 6.4.2, and 6.4.3. Material Safety Data Sheets may be obtained from PTI. SOFTC-2A is also specified per SAE Oil Filter Test Procedure HS J806, June 1983.SAE HS J806 specification referenced Federal Specification F-F-351c formulation procedure.
Ingredients as specified are as follows:
• Carbon Black 16% by weight
• Ferric Oxide 2% by weight
• PV Resin 4% by weight
• Straight Mineral Oil 78% by weight
Available by case (Four 1-gallon cans)
or by 1-gallon cans
SECOND CUT COTTON LINTERS
Cotton Linters are second cut linters removed from the cotton seed, and ground in a Wiley Mill fitted with a 4 mm screen. Cotton Linters tend to agglomerate or lump together, and may be difficult to separate individually.
Cotton Linters are used in a variety of testing applications to represent organic plant matter found in indoor and outdoor environments. Cotton linters are used as a fuel system component test contaminant, an ingredient in ASHRAE Test Dust, a contaminant for high efficiency water heater testing, as well as other indoor air quality test programs.
Available in the following quantities:

FLY ASH
• 33% less than 32 micron, 67% greater than 32 microns
• Made to Din V40 046, Part 48

• Type #399 (Nominal Minus 200 mesh, nominal 5 micron median size)

PORTLAND CEMENT
• Conforms to ASTM C-150, Type 1

PULVERIZED VINSOL RESIN (DARK PINE RESIN)
• PV Resin (Pulverized Vinsol resin) is a finely ground, free-flowing tan powder. It is one of a family of resins extracted from southern pine stumpwood.
